Atmos Training Center is a community-based organization established in 2024 in Oshakati East, Namibia. The organization was founded in response to the pressing needs of vulnerable women in the region, particularly those affected by poverty, GBV, and limited access to education and employment opportunities. Its mission is to improve the quality of life of marginalized women through accessible adult education, vocational training, and psychosocial support. Since its founding, Atmos has developed and delivered a variety of community-centered programs, including courses in digital literacy, tailoring, English literacy, and hospitality. The organization is known locally for its trusted presence and successful engagement with hard-to-reach populations, including sex workers, widows, and unemployed youth. Since its inception, Atmos has served over 81 women and youth, many of whom have gone on to start small businesses or gain stable employment.
For the past two quarters, Tonata has been collaborating with Atmos on various initiatives. Community field mobilizers deliver key health education sessions once a week to the participants, specifically covering the topics of stigma and discrimination, GBV, as well as HIV prevention, treatment, and care. While Atmos empowers vulnerable individuals economically and socially, our involvement ensures participants are empowered to take control of their health. This partnership is particularly important as many of our members are PLHIV, people with disabilities (PWD), sex workers, AGYW, and survivors of GBV. The mobilizers also deliver sessions on Village Savings and Loans (VSL), enhancing the Center’s aim of promoting economic independence.
A representative from Tonata meets with the participants once a week to deliver sessions on business development and employability. The sessions cover a range of topics, including CV writing, business planning, budgeting, and more. The training gives the participants the tools to apply their vocational training after they graduate from Atmos—whether by securing employment in the hospitality industry or launching their own tailoring business.
