Tonata’s team in Oshikoto region has developed a strong working relationship with Small Steps Foundation, an NGO aimed at empowering young boys, enabling inclusive communities, and supporting individuals with disabilities. This organization brings together youth in the Ondongwa community twice a month to engage in fun games and activities, while receiving critical education on health topics and life skills. Through the medium of sports, our team educates the boys on various topics, including the dangers of drug use and how and why they should report abuse. Two American Peace Corps Volunteers often assist at these events and lead educational activities.
This program with Small Steps is strengthened through educational events with parents and caregivers; we deliver sessions on active and positive parenting. Small Steps is currently in the process of organizing a club soccer team to compete in local sports tournaments, providing a positive outlet for the youth.
