A traditional leaders’ engagement dialogue in Uukwiyuushona reached 46 traditional leaders, strengthening their role as key entry points into the referral system. Through discussions on GBV, mental health and social protection, leaders identified cases requiring support beyond their mandate and recognized the importance of timely referrals to services such as NAMPOL, MOHSS and the Ministry of Gender.
For example, traditional leaders raised a potentially wrongful imprisonment case, which Tonata facilitated for referral to NAMPOL’s Gender Division. They also identified challenges around birth and death certificates affecting children’s access to OVC and GIPF benefits.
The dialogue reinforced that strengthening traditional leaders’ role in the referral system is critical to ensuring community members are connected to the right services and receive appropriate support
